We shouldn't be surprised that a violent patriarchy would underestimate climate sensitivity.
All the large NGOs used to warn of crossing "Tipping points and Triggering Feedback Loops", now that we have triggered over six dozen of them, the dome of silence has descended. It's about as effective as the one Maxwell Smart had.
Fund raisers must have hope; hope is the enemy of science.
"Losing the remaining Arctic sea ice and its ability to reflect incoming solar energy back to space would be equivalent to adding one trillion tons of CO2 to the atmosphere, on top of the 2.4 trillion tons emitted since the Industrial Age, according to current and former researchers from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego."
This quote comes from an embedded link from Scripps, who I'll point out are extremely conservative, in my blog post titled: "Cascading Consequences of the Loss of Arctic Sea Ice."
“The ice is melting faster than ever, but there’s still time to act" This sounds like a TV ad from the 1-800 era or even the SASE era. I know, I'll just go to my Sears & Roebucks catalog and order an icecap. Wait, Sears is gone? Well maybe Amazon has an icecap. Oh, Amazon and all that use it (guilty) destroyed the icecap (and Sears)? So infinite consumption on a finite planet is unsustainable? PS when did the word "icecap" become obsolete? I never hear it being used.
Thanks for this, but what about the enormous amount of human generated heat energy being absorbed by the 1.2 trillion tons of annual melting global ice, where each pound is absorbing 144 BTUs as it melts? This is the first stage of the planet's AC and C3S is predicting that 2/3rds of the planet's glaciers will have melted by 2,100. The 321 million cubic miles of oceans are also sequestering the heat energy we keep producing, but we can see the oceans warming and the storms that's generating. The hydrological cycle is working at very high levels to keep our surface temperatures within the range we humans can endure, and that starts with the melting ice. Several reliable sources report that Greenland is losing 5-9 billion tons of melt water HOURLY. An outdated article once reported that we'd be 65 degF hotter on the surface, were it not for these heat sequestering systems. We are burning the hell up and just don't realize it, or just don't give a damn. And, what about the climate we're leaving for the 168,000 children being born today?
Not a lot of people think, ask questions, question our conditioning. Us vs Them is as far as the majority of our species got. The fact one person has millions and millions have nothing is perfectly acceptable to them. Just dont think about it.
Unfortunately, I suspect most people “don’t give a damn.” A lot of people remain ignorant about anthropogenic climate change, a fact that continues to surprise me.
As ice goes, we go. I doubt most people understand that fact.
Confirmation of a phase change, tipping point, being crossed in Antarctica.

Thank you for this critical piece of information, Kevin.

For the record here's the EDF paper we discussed on Zoom lately.

Again, thank you!

Capitalism corrupts everything it touches, including science.
I posted the link on Facadebook and Sam responded below:

This article also includes data from two recent James Hansen articles on aerosol masking and the loss of cloud cover and the darkening of the earth.

Thank you for this information, and for including links to additional information. We can all investigate further in the next few hours.
Thank you, Kevin. I appreciate the accolades from you and “Sam Carana.”
“It's about as effective as the one Maxwell Smart had.”
Ha! That was a very good one, as I recall.
Thank you for your collegiality, Kevin. Your efforts in sharing, liking, and adding to my work are greatly appreciated.
Many thanks as always--spot on!
Thank YOU, Ms. Potter

“Icecap” is accompanied by several other obsolete words. Maybe they’ll return in a torrent of rational thinking. 😂
Scientists are mystified, baffled, puzzled, stumped, curious, perplexed, alarmed, shocked, appalled, confused, stunned, horrified, clueless, worried, terrified, frustrated, scared, concerned, bewildered, astonished, gobsmacked, and still scratching their heads 5,199 days post-Fukushima
This is beautiful.
That’s hilarious. I ran out of synonyms at four!

Not thinking is what most of us do best
