I would posit that the "More, more, more" obsession is the direct spawn of a culture that believes we can have infinite growth on a finite planet.

Once you can function within that delusion, you'll go along with nearly anything!

“Being poor is not having too little, it is wanting more.”

Seneca warned us nearly 2000 years ago and as with the "Limits to Growth" in 1972 we read the warnings, the culture decided to ignore them and put our foot to the floor, pedal to the metal, full speed ahead!

Crashing is the only logical outcome.
