Our Faustian bargain, "knock, knock, knocking on heaven's door."

I first heard of what Dr James E Hansen dubbed "Our Faustian Bargain," after 911 grounded all flights over the USA, there was an immediate spike in temperatures.

During lockdown in India, one commentator said he could see mountains in the distance, that he had never seen before, because of atmospheric aerosols.

In 2015, I was tramping in Nepal and when in Kathmandu our eyes were burning for the first day, from all the soot from rudimentary brick works, where they manufactured bricks for the construction industry, burning coal and wood to fire their kilns, with no filtration in the chimneys, which you can see in every direction. Our eyes 'got used' to the irritation after a few days but those aerosols are terrible for pregnant women and anyone with breathing ailments

I've added this analysis to my blog post titled: "The Aerosol Masking Effect, a Deep Dive into Our “Faustian Bargain.” which has previous work from Guy embedded and a brilliant interview from Leon Simons, who I would consider to be the leading scientist in conjunction with Dr Hansen on the Aerosol Masking Effect.

In the paper “Climate effects of aerosols reduce economic inequality. Nature Climate Change, 2020; DOI: 10.1038/s41558–020–0699-y” the authors find that:

Estimates indicate that aerosol pollution emitted by humans is offsetting about 0.7 degrees Celsius, or about 1.3 degrees Fahrenheit, of the warming due to greenhouse gas emissions,” said lead author Zheng. “This translates to a 40-year delay in the effects of climate change. Without cooling caused by aerosol emissions, we would have achieved 2010-level global mean temperatures in 1970.”

This is NOT "something new". Our failure to account for SOx aerosols has compromised our value for Climate Sensitivity (2XCO2) from day one. Our models are based on what we "observed" and we have been "observing" a suppressed CO2 warming effect.

These papers REEK of mainstream climate science assumptions about climate sensitivity and spinning the evidence to somehow defend their erroneous theories. Again, I say, everyone needs to understand the lessons of Kuhn's "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions".
