Another day another discovery of methane from a source previously unknown.

Our predicament is always worse than we knew yesterday.

I've added this article to my most recent blog post on Methane, which I'll post below for further reference:

Two days ago, two separate articles were released that talked about methane surges in the Arctic and the Antarctic.

The Arctic News article – “Arctic Blue Ocean Event 2025” (https://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2025/03/arctic-blue-ocean-event-2025.html) – says that Atlantic Ocean warm water has invaded the Arctic and is now thawing methane hydrates on the bottom of the Arctic Ocean. The article also predicts that if the Arctic Ocean continues its rate of ice loss in 2025 there could be a “Blue Ocean Event (BOE)” in September. At the end of the article is a list of 20 hyperlinks with related data and reports.

At the same time Counter Punch author, Robert Hunziker, reports on huge methane releases in the Antarctic that are “a game changer”. The article – “Discovery of Immense Methane Leaks in Antarctica” (https://www.counterpunch.org/2025/03/21/discovery-of-immense-methane-leaks-in-antarctica/) – notes that “a slumbering giant is beginning to stir. Scientists have made a startling discovery. Vast reservoirs of methane hydrates locked away for millennia are showing signs of instability. … It’s a huge understatement to say this would be horrendous for Antarctic methane leaks, Arctic methane leaks, including Siberian methane leaks and Alaskan methane leaks, as well as Glacial methane leaks. The volume of methane locked away in Antarctic ice is estimated to be more carbon than all other fuel deposits combined for the planet. A small fraction of this escaping into the atmosphere could have catastrophic consequences for the climate system in the not-too-distant future.” Hunziker referred to the following sources for the article:
